Alcoholism and Cathedral City’s Famous Former Residents

Cathedral City is the third-largest city in the Coachella Valley, near the famous resort city of Palm Springs. Like some of the other notable cities in the area, Cathedral City boasts luxurious country clubs and rolling green golf courses, and is a popular destination for visitors of all kinds.

Cathedral City also has two rather famous cemeteries – Forest Lawn Cemetery and Desert Memorial Park. These cemeteries are tourist draws for the city as well, being the resting place of many famous celebrities, including Dinah Shore, Sonny Bono, Frank Sinatra, and Busby Berkley. The Forest Lawn Cemetery is also where “Papa” John Phillips is buried, one of the founding members of the Mamas and the Papas. Although a highly respected songwriter, Phillips was also unfortunately plagued by severe problems with drugs and alcohol, leading to arrests for drug trafficking, and a liver transplant later in life.

Alcoholic Liver Disease

The National Institute of Health (NIH) notes that excessive consumption of alcohol, especially over a long period of time, can lead to swelling and inflammation of the liver (hepatitis).
