Sacramento DDC Program Aids in Recovery

Sacramento Dependency Drug Courts focus on helping families that have been affected by drug abuse problems. The focus is of course on child welfare, although the rehabilitation of parents is also important. Statistics are published by the Sacramento DDC to demonstrate who is most affected by specific drug issues in the region.

Seventy percent of the participants in the program were women and over half admitted that crystal meth was their primary drug problem. By the completion of the 24-month period surveyed, more than half of the children had been reunited with their families after being removed due to the drug activity. The average for those not in the DDC program is less than 27 percent. The study showed that parents who abused heroin were the least likely to get their children back; marijuana users were the most likely. The DDC statistics also show that men were more likely to have a job and less likely to have a disability than women in the program.

What the DDC Program Does and What It Means for Drug Recovery

The DDC has worked with the Sacramento drug courts to change the way they operate. The Department of Health and Human Services has been given more information about drug addiction, there are social workers available to provide early intervention, individuals with families have faster access to drug treatment services when dealing with CPS, and individuals get more court appearances to discuss their progress.

What the Sacramento DDC program outlines is the importance of rehabilitation and the belief that people are able to overcome their disease (addiction) and become responsible parents again. Individuals who have not been caught for their drug use also need to recognize that they are doing no favors to their children and get treatment help voluntarily in Sacramento.
